Carpet Stains

It was June 12, 2009 when Midnight and I decided to go out and see some of our friends play in Tampa. It was band members Lee Harrison and Joe Koltays's birthday celebrations that weekend and it would have been a shame to miss the chance to see them. Mid (always worried about his public appearance) wanted to do a touch up on His flowing black curly locks and asked me if I knew how to do it. I told Him I have bleached my own hair numerous times so it shouldn't be a problem to do His. He normally treated His hair with the 'darkest black almost a deep eggplant color" since turning His hair from it's natural blonde in His earlier years. We also picked out birthday cards at the same time and a lilac scented candle.
That weekend it rained very hard and my car has a moon roof, which happened to leak through. The smell was atrocious driving to the store, so we bought the candle to kill the musty smell. After sitting in the living room, coloring Mid's hair black that rainy afternoon, we noticed that some of it dripped on the carpet and down His chin. I even got it on the nape of His neck against His skin. He told me that He hoped it wouldn't stain. I wasn't too worried about it, while I'm standing there telling Him I don't think it will stain, a towel draped around His shoulders, sitting patiently while He was enjoying the attention. We even included His eyebrows. He taught me that the eyebrows are the most important part of the face to accentuate. They bring out the full colors of the eyes and I did not doubt Him one bit. After rinsing the color out of His hair...etc..the dye DID stain all over the sides of His face, back of His neck and some on His chin. WE tried to scrub it off, but it was on there pretty good and wasn't coming off. Instead of being angry, He just made a joke out of it, said He'd wear a collared shirt to cover it up. We both cracked up at my novice attempt in dying hair. (Little did I know that dying hair is much different than bleaching it).
On our drive to Tampa, Mid held the birthday cards and I lit the scented candle placed between us in the cup department. I asked Mid to be careful of the flames. After driving up the highway a few miles, the next thing I see is the tip of the cards being lit on fire.....Mid started laughing so hard...so what does He do? He takes the wax from the candle and dips them on the cards and the fire goes out.
The cards survived the trip, only partially burnt but the trip there was one of the most amusing drives I have ever had. When we gave the cards to Lee and Joe...the bewilderment on their faces looking at the burnt edges of the cards was priceless. "No need to explain" Lee laughed, as he was very happy to see we made the hour long drive....Everyday spent with Midnight was a treasured trip that only He knew how to make a delightful experience out of.....so I leave you with this thought....
"When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight." Kahlil Gibran....
Midnight, You are with us for all eternity and your beautiful magic you left behind are memories to be cherished always....and as far as the carpet stains… they're still there… I could not get them out....and looking back… I'm glad they're still there.......
